Who We Are and What We Do
It started in the 1980s as a young man in his late twenties developed a passion for building homes. Brett Armstrong, current President, imagined that he could use his passion for construction, hands-on experience, and his education in business and real estate to make his dreams become a reality. He wanted to build homes that would not only stand the test of time but incorporate old-world craftsmanship with ever-changing innovation.
In 1990, Armstrong Homes was officially born. The early years consisted of remodels, small projects, a small team, and a few new construction homes. Throughout the years, our experience grew along with our passion, while learning every step of the way. Larger projects, more employees, trucks, and diversification allowed our name and reputation to take a foothold in southeastern Michigan.
Armstrong Homes’ middle decades opened the doors to land developments, multiple subdivisions, and high-end luxury custom homes. This led to an employment team of sales, assistants, onsite daily laborers, site supervisors, in-house construction crews, designers, interior decorators, and an experienced sales and brokerage staff.
As our business grew, we adopted the mission statement: “We work as hard at staying small as most corporations work at becoming big.” Simple but powerful, this motto keeps us grounded and accessible to our client base.
As the years went on, we built hundreds of homes for happy customers and won many awards along the way, including but not limited to Model Home of the Year and Kitchen of the Year by numerous publications.
Then the 2008 housing recession happened. Our spirit, resilience, and mission statement came into full effect during those difficult times. Through our faith and beliefs, we treaded water during those years as we regretfully watched so many others in our industry drown. But the sun did shine again, and we went back to work—downsized but as enthusiastic as ever. Over time, we all healed, and Armstrong Homes comfortably continued to build its reputation as a leader in its field of construction once again.
As our current decade started, COVID-19 was another hurdle we all fought, both in life and in business. We were fortunate enough to be in a position to downscale to meet the current situation and survive once again. As you can imagine, our mission statement from 30 years earlier allowed us to continue to refine and always improve in every aspect of being a custom home builder.
After 40 years in this business, we still tackle new challenges and learn new skills every day. Most owners who run a successful business for four decades usually throw in the towel and decide to retire—but not at Armstrong Homes. It is something that we love and that we’re pretty darn good at, so why stop now?
Today, Armstrong Homes is a selective client-based custom builder that takes on only a handful of projects per year. Our choices of who we build for are not based on profitability or convenience. They are based on qualified, happy, and secure clients who are looking for the same from their builder—a builder who has the most professional contractors and suppliers and a design background that is innovative without losing old-world craftsmanship and good ol’ fashioned common sense.

A proud 1983 graduate of Ferris State University and the founder and CEO of Armstrong Homes Inc. Brett has spent decades turning dreams into homes and building a reputation for craftsmanship and integrity.
BAY NOLAND-ARMSTRONG
With a B.S. in Wildlife Sciences from the University of Georgia ’24, Bay is an aspiring wildlife biologist driven by a deep passion for conservation and a keen fascination with ornithology.
